The beautiful synchronization occurred 5 minutes from Van Stijn's home. The starlings flock every year near his suburb, but normally they are much smaller. The huge flocks like this one are not as common. Roald Van Stijn waited three years to capture a murmuration during the perfect conditions. When filming the swirling mass before, Van Stijn said the sky would become too dark or buildings and trees would get in the frame. Finally, the filmmaker's patience paid off when the flock of starlings danced in the Utrecht sky in the Netherlands earlier this week.
